mbaNEWS: The closing ceremony of the 11th Web and Mobile Festival of Iran was held at the presence of Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Vice-President for Science and Technology, and head of the National Elite Foundation as well as senior officials of the country and the private sector, founders and

activists in the web and mobile fields.

According to the press office of the festival, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi, speaking at the ceremony said: “Beside good news, we hear a lot of news about corruption and plunder of the treasury and activities of the defective genes for the jobbery of some economic corruptors.”

Referring to the fact that Iran’s future depends on the activities of the youth, he said: “Despite the obstacles, the activities of the young people are becoming more spirited each and every day; while attending the Web and Mobile Festival, I would say I am optimistic about the future you the youth would build.”
The minister further remarked: “We hope the participants in this festival would be able to change the economic conditions of the country and set aside the idea adhered by the authorities of not being the child of your time.”

Meanwhile, Sorena Sattari, another speaker at the ceremony, said the universities should receive a significant percentage of their revenue from the sales of technology, adding that this area should be strengthened. “Investors should also reach the understanding how they can use the startup capacity.”
Saying that fortunately the ecosystem of the startups is taking shape, Sattari said: “If we want to witness the growth and development in the country and the government, we should support innovation.”

The vice-president referred to the advantages and disadvantages of the oil based economy, and stated: “We in the government should be able to prepare the necessary ground for activity in this area and public culture should be strengthened in this field.”

Stressing that the startups have many capacities that can be injected into different sections, he added: “Good events are taking place in this arena” and pointed to the publication of many books about successful startups and noted: “Service startups enjoy expanded market and you definitely have to compete with the traditional system in the field of modern technology and of course the traditional system is strong.”

Referring to the growing business ecosystems, he said: “Municipalities are active in the virtual space and are familiar with it and you should use this capacity.”
Noting that municipalities are not expected to solve problems of the cities, the vice-president said the problems of the cities should be solved by the people. “This is a message we should convey to the Municipality and should solve problems with the right startups.”

He said the ideas should be native and followed up in the country and reminded: “Service startups have a great market the capacity which should be used for services." Regretting that the service sector had been rent-based and the oil money dependent, he said: “You, in the startups with inexpensive services, can have a good deal.”

He said since last year we have been seriously concentrating on active accelerators, adding: “The ratio of the government to the private sector is one to ten, and today we have reached the point where the science and technology parks are also being developed by the private sector.”

The vice-president said: “When we talk about smart cities, it means that the entire city has been a technology park and the capacities provided can be used… The culture of economy is oil-based which would destroy us and after a while this thinking will be developed that we cannot survive without oil.”

Stressing that in different sections, especially in the investment sector, distance should be kept from the government, Sattari said: “The oil money does not bring prosperity; it may generate some rent for a short period of time and you may witness some short-lived development, but eventually you will fall. Such developments are not lasting.”

Another speaker, founder of Iran Web and Mobile Festival Shayan Shalileh, in a brief speech said: “There is strong solidarity between the companies and the activists of the festival, and we hope we can be witness to good happenings in this regard. We want the tax office not to survey our tax with the methods used 70 years ago.”

Referring to problems with some institutions and organizations, he added: “The festival has entered its second decade, and this year we tried to redefine the festival and provide a ground for the small companies to introduce themselves.

Commenting on Rubika, he said: “We had not received one million votes ever in any year despite all the methods we had employed. From business point of view Rubika has not been a bad thing. Good or bad, the national media is the IRIB and with Rubika the startups found their way into the IRIB with 24-25 million users.”
Stressing that there is a big gap in transfer of knowledge and team work compared with the West, Shalileh said: “That is why our accelerators have not been successful… If you want to build culture you should start from yourselves”, saying that in the Web Festival four key individuals were women.

The founder of the Web and Mobile Festival, saying that his biggest mistake has been the launching of the festival, added: “The fact that the Web and Mobile Festivals were merged was to keep them alive.”

He reminded that big money will ruin the startup. “Never experience low literacy and low experience. I worked with the people whose knowledge in the particular area was so much higher than me but I was not afraid to ask questions.”

Referring to the fact that he has been realistic and avoided emotional selections, he added: “We the startups are here to stay and we should say it to the authorities that we are ready to build and a group of people to work beside us.”

Milad Ehram-Poosh, the co-founder of Iran’s Web and Mobile Festival, spoke on the second day of the festival and referred to the registration of 2,800 apps and 400 sites, and a total of more than 5,000 entries to the 11th festival and said the festival is the biggest arena for the competition between the Persian websites and apps.
He continued by saying that 80% of the apps are on the Android platform and the market is largely in the hands of that platform and this is while we should not forget that the IOS users are the money-maker users and can advertise you for the others and therefore should not be ignored.

Referring to the fact that this year the number of apps was bigger than the number of sites, he said: “The reason for this is the increase in the Internet speed and the number of smart phones that have provided a high capacity for work in this field.”

Ehram-Poosh further remarked: “Competition between the groups is close and the scores are not far from each other and the candidacy of the businesses would greatly help their visibility.”

Saying that the approach of this year’s festival is support for businesses in provinces, he said from this year another section was added to the festival which is supporting those who need education and in the first sept 43 million tomans were collected for Shirabad schools in Sistan and Baluchestan with which six schools would be equipped and it will be a good start for this move and with collective cooperation further projects would be launched for the next festival.
